Non-discrimination

At its 29th Meeting in December 2011, the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) agreed that the subject for the thematic segment of the 31st PCB Meeting (11- 13 December 2012) would be “non-discrimination”. In the Working Group on the Thematic Segment, it was acknowledged that there have been many important reports over the years which have detailed the devastating impact that HIV-related discrimination has had, and continues to have, on individuals and on the response to the HIV epidemic. Rather than focus solely on the impact of such discrimination, the Working Group decided to use this Thematic Segment to highlight efforts to reduce discrimination. This focus is intended to build understanding of what can be done in terms of concrete initiatives and programmes and to encourage expansion of such efforts in national HIV responses.
