In Memoriam: John Rock

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of John Rock, a distinguished member of the NGO Delegation of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) between 2013 and 2014. John’s dedication and passion for international development, particularly in the field of HIV/AIDS, left an indelible mark on countless lives and communities.

John’s career was marked by his unwavering commitment to advocacy and support for people living with HIV. He served as an advisor to the Asia Pacific Network of People Living with HIV (APN+), contributed his expertise to the Global Board of the International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC), and chaired the Board of the Asia Pacific Foundation for Peoples of Asia and the Pacific (AFAP). His role as a delegate on the UNAIDS PCB allowed him to bring the voices and concerns of civil society to the forefront of global policy discussions.

John’s influence, which originated from his home in Australia, reached far and wide. His involvement in a capacity-building project for HIV networks across Asia and the Pacific, funded by AusAID, showcased his dedication to fortifying local responses to HIV. His work spanned continents, a testament to his belief in the power of global unity and cooperation in the efforts to end the HIV epidemic as a public health threat .

John’s professional contributions were only part of what made him memorable to his colleagues and friends. His warm personality, tireless advocacy, and genuine care for the communities he served are the qualities they will remember most. His legacy will continue to inspire those working towards a world free of AIDS.

In honoring John Rock, we celebrate his life, achievements, and lasting impact on the global HIV and AIDS community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the continued efforts to achieve the goals he so passionately pursued.

We extend our deepest condolences to John’s family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time. May he rest in peace.
