The Summary Bulletin contains the following sections: Report of the Executive Director, Report by the NGO representative, Leadership in the AIDS response, Follow-up to the thematic segment from the 54th Programme Coordinating Board meeting, Findings of the mid-term review of the Global AIDS Strategy 2021-2026; Update on HIV in prisons and other closed settings; Evaluation report and management response; Next PCB Meetings; Thematic Segment: Addressing inequalities in children and adolescents to end AIDS by 2030; and reflections from incoming delegates.

Kenya hosted the 55th UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) meeting in Nairobi from 10 to 12 December 2024, marking the first time in 18 years that the PCB convened in Africa. This historic event underscored the continent’s centrality in the global HIV response, with Kenya also organizing five field visits for delegates on 9 December. These visits offered firsthand insight into the challenges and successes of local HIV programs, highlighting the critical role of community-driven initiatives in shaping effective responses.

The PCB’s agenda included key discussions on the mid-term review of the Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026, updates on HIV in prisons and other closed settings, and sustaining gains toward ending AIDS by 2030. The NGO Delegation presented its report, Breaking the Chains: Supporting Community Leadership and Human Rights for a Sustainable HIV Response, calling on Member States and donors to enhance funding for community-led organizations and prioritize human rights initiatives. The thematic segment, Addressing Inequalities in Children and Adolescents to End AIDS by 2030, explored the urgent need to address barriers in HIV prevention, treatment, and support services for these populations.

Throughout the meeting, key discussions emphasized the persistent funding gaps and the critical importance of community leadership in driving equitable solutions. Delegates reinforced the need for sustained investments, strengthened accountability, and innovative approaches to address inequities, particularly for children, adolescents, and other vulnerable groups, as part of the global commitment to ending AIDS by 2030.
