The 53rd UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) thematic segment topic is “Testing and HIV” and takes place on 14 December 2023.
The process of developing the content of this thematic segment by and with the NGO Delegation has started.
The thematic segment will at least touch upon the following themes: HIV testing is an essential gateway to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services. There were approximately 37.7 million people across the globe with HIV in 2020. Only approximately 84% of people with HIV globally knew their HIV status in 2020.
Laboratories are essential components of the health system and are critical in detecting and monitoring treatment for diseases. Testing involves each step of HIV identification, care, and treatment. HIV testing is a key first step to accessing treatment. The viral load test is valuable for managing therapy to see if antiretroviral drugs are controlling the virus. HIV drug-resistance testing should be performed to assist in the selection of active drugs when changing ART regimens in the following patients. This issue can help identify HIV-infected persons and improve the quality of treatment and care. Contribute to the realization of goals 95-95-95. It is necessary to strengthen public health laboratory services.
We will start by formulating our objectives for this thematic segment. We are also looking for people to participate in this thematic segment’s civil society advisory group (CSAG). The CSAG functions as an active sounding board for the NGO Delegation during the development of the contents of the thematic segment. Do you have specific knowledge on the matter? Get in touch!
