Term: 1 January 2025 – 31 December 2026 (with possible extension until 31 December 2027)
Keren Dunaway is a passionate advocate for gender equality and human rights. At Llanto, Valor y Esfuerzo (LLAVES), she works to elevate the rights of women living with HIV within Latin American political agendas, spearheading initiatives focused on youth empowerment and women’s rights. Keren also supports the youth volunteer network in Honduras, where she fosters collaborations with feminist organizations and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) groups across the region. As a dedicated community researcher, her influential work on gender equity has significantly shaped policy dialogue and advocacy efforts.
In addition to her role at LLAVES, Keren serves as Global Program Officer at ICW Global, where she leads the PLHIV Stigma Index Technical Assistance program. Through this initiative, she empowers networks of people living with HIV (PLHIV) to conduct community-driven research, producing evidence-based advocacy to address stigma and advance the rights and dignity of PLHIV worldwide.
LLAVES is a Honduran NGO founded in 1999 to defend the rights and well-being of people living with HIV. Driven by a mission to reduce HIV-related mortality and human rights violations, LLAVES focuses on improving access to healthcare, combating gender-based violence, and promoting evidence-based advocacy. The organization is particularly committed to supporting women and girls affected by HIV in Honduras.
LLAVES has been instrumental in shaping national HIV policy, including the creation of Honduras’ Special HIV Law and the Five-Year HIV and Human Rights Plan, aimed at dismantling structural barriers to services. At the National Conference on HIV and Human Rights, LLAVES spotlighted workplace discrimination and coercive sterilization practices targeting women with HIV. Their advocacy secured the inclusion of coerced sterilizations as human rights violations in the national public policy on SRHR, marking a significant step toward justice and accountability.
