Fionnuala Murphy

Fionnuala Murphy is Head of Global Advocacy at Frontline AIDS and has been in her current role since 2019.  She has worked in campaigns and advocacy on HIV, human rights, and gender justice for 20 years at organizations including Harm Reduction International, ActionAid, and Youth STOPAIDS, and has collaborated with partners from around the world to support multiple Global Fund replenishments to achieve important wins on equitable access to HIV medicines (and more recently COVID-19 technologies), and to secure landmark commitments on harm reduction from the 2016 UNGASS on Drugs, alongside other outcomes.  Fionnuala grew up in Northern Ireland and draws on her personal experiences of conflict, colonialism, and community leadership in her approaches to advocacy and partnerships today.  She holds degrees in Law and Journalism.

Frontline AIDS is one of the world’s largest civil society partnerships responding to HIV and AIDS, with more than 60 members operating in over 100 countries.  Frontline AIDS’ approach to the HIV response is reflected in the six partnership actions set out in their Global Plan of Action, which include:

1.    Challenge leaders to invest in and improve access to HIV prevention

2.    Integrate HIV, SRHR, TB, and viral hepatitis services that put people at the center

3.    Advocate for human rights, gender equality, and access to health and justice

4.    Deliver, share, and scale up innovations

5.    Strengthen and sustain community health systems

6.    Develop and champion a new generation of leaders

Drawing on 30 years of experience and expertise working with people living with HIV and communities who are most impacted by the AIDS pandemic, Frontline AIDS works to solve the toughest challenges that are often avoided and ignored, focusing on joint advocacy, programming, knowledge sharing, community systems strengthening and resource mobilization.
