Thank you Madame Chair.

The NGO delegation appreciates having had the opportunity to be involved in the working group on the follow-up to the thematic segment on ensuring that food and nutrition security are integral parts of HIV programming. We appreciate the movement we have finally seen on this issue in the work of the joint programme as this is a crucial component of the HIV response, particularly in my region.

The 27th Programme Coordinating Board Meeting will consist of a day-long thematic segmant entitled: “Food and nutrition security and HIV: how to ensure food and nutrition security are integral parts of HIV programming”.

Thematic session: Food and nutrition security and HIV: how to ensure food and nutrition security are integral parts of HIV programming”

The 2010 Thematic Session Core Working Group on Food Security and HIV, composed of civil society, Member States and Cosponsors, met for the first time on September 20th, 2010. The meeting reviewed the mission of the working group members, the general guidelines for the process and the draft background paper. This core working group will be responsible for planning the thematic session including the introductory plenary session and the break-out group sessions.

The working group responsible for the preparation of the thematic session “Food and nutrition security and HIV: how to ensure food and nutrition security are integral parts of HIV programming” is currently being formed. The group will include representatives from the UNAIDS Secretariat, NGO Delegates, Member States and Cosponsors. More information regarding the group composition and ways in which you can feed into the development of the session will be posted to the Upcoming PCB Meeting section of the NGO Delegation website as soon as it is made available.
