UNITAID Invites Applications from Civil Society to Attend Next Board Meeting

This is a request for expressions of interest from stakeholder groups to attend the forthcoming meetings in Geneva, Switzerland:

  • Civil Society delegations pre=Board meeting, 30 Nov – 2 Dec
  • 17th meeting of the Executive Board of UNITAID, 3-5 Dec.

In order to be considered for attendance at both of these meetings, please email a short expression of interest, no more than 4 paragraphs, not exceeding 1 A4 page, to LZadeh@oxfam.org.uk COB Monday 5 November. The expression should detail if you are an NGOs or Communities representative, your country of residence, what your specific areas of interest/expertise are and whether you would require funding to attend the meeting or would be self-funded. Expressions of interest received AFTER 5 November or EXCEEDING 1 A4 PAGE (including CVs etc) will NOT be considered.

UNITAID is an international drug-purchasing facility, intervening for market impact to scale up access to prevention, diagnostic, and treatment products for HIV and AIDS, TB and malaria in developing countries. UNITAID raises money through a combination of taxes on airline tickets and long-term government funding.  UNITAID is also a vehicle to encourage follow-on innovation, to ensure medicines are available in formulations and combinations that are best suited to the target populations and treatment conditions in developing countries.

Call for Membership: Communities Delegation to UNITAID – Communities Support Team

PLEASE NOTE: There is no application form  - please email up to 1 page of text as detailed in the instructions below

Applications from people living with HIV, affected by TB and/or malaria in Eastern Europe, Latin American and the Caribbean, and Asia, plus African countries with high UNITAID investments* are particularly encouraged to apply. *Including Uganda, Mozambique, DRC, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Malawi.

The Communities Delegation to UNITAID is seeking new members for its Communities Support Team, which works to raise awareness of UNITAID at country level, and to ensure UNITAID projects reach communities who need them. Full Terms of Reference are attached, and instructions on how to apply are included below. UNITAID is an international drug-purchasing facility, supporting projects which use UNITAID’s long-term sustainable funding to positively impact the market for medicines and other health products for HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria. UNITAID convened its 3rd Consultative Forum on 4-5 October 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland, to consult with a range of UNITAID partners and stakeholders (including civil society, implementing partners, donor governments, pharmaceutical industry, and Ministry of Health representatives) on issues relating to UNITAID and the broader global health environment in the three diseases, and to generate recommendations on next steps for UNITAID’s activities.
