2010 NGO Delegation Consultation Results – Stigma and Discrimination: Hindering Effective HIV Responses

This is a summary report of the data received from 1556 participants in an online consultation carried out during March-April of 2010. The data here – supplemented by survey comments, more than 50 interviews and 8 focus groups – was presented to the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) in June 2010 in the annual NGO Report.

Sara Simon and Natalie Siniora of the UNAIDS PCB NGO Delegation’s Communication Facility worked with Laurel Sprague, data analyst at Wayne State University, to develop this summary report and five regional reports. NGO Consultation Results Now Available!

The analyzed data results of the 2010 NGO consultation on stigma and discrimination are now available! Compiled results are organized into six, easy-to-read, short reports. The global summary includes regional comparisons and the five regional reports include subregional data. Many thanks to the more than 1500 of you who participated in making this data possible. Translated data reports will be posted as they become available.

NGO Report Consultation Deadline MARCH 15

Each year, the NGO Delegation to the UNAIDS governing body (called the Programme Coordinating Board or PCB) submits a report to the Board. This is an important opportunity for us to present the unique perspectives of civil society on the developments and issues around the AIDS pandemic. Broad input from civil society informs the NGO report, particularly regarding key issues on the agenda, but also regarding persistent or emerging issues “on the ground.”

This year, we anticipate that the June 2010 board meeting will include agenda items such as non-discrimination; men who have sex with men (MSM); and a thematic focus on sexual and reproductive health services linked to HIV.

The survey is currently available in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Burmese, Arabic, Thai and Swahili. Please take the time to complete the survey before the 15th of MARCH.
